Born in
Barcelona in 1980
Fernando Romero
was always interested in literature, history and art: this self-taught painter spent his teenage years writing short stories and drawing to evade reality. But it was through painting that he found the best way to communicate and explore his passion for fantasy and fiction. On his canvas both the figure and the background have leading roles in a very personal style between realism and abstraction. Mixing painting with different mediums Romero obtains a wide variety of textures that blend with the outlines and contours of a neverending landscape. His intention is to create an oneiric work where the spectator could also evade reality.
Recent Exibitions
BARCELONA DESING WEEK 2021:
new exposition “Mediterranean Visions” in SINERGIA gallery (La Gran Via Corts Catalanes, 753, bajos local 1, Barcelona, Spain) until July, 15th 2021.
Fernando mixes actual people with a non-existent landscapes. His paintings is layered, dragged, watered or thickened on the canvas to create a suggestive atmosphere that invites a viewer to reflect on the relationship of the characters and their environment. It is the reality of an intimate moment where the viewer participates as well… it is a perfect excuse to think about everything that is beyond our comprehension.
His recent collections were entirely created during/ for/ under/ before/ over / confinement, to show what can be (and should not always be) done when you are all by yourself; and as always, it has been done to create a journey in the mind of a spectator.
Artwork
At this moment Fernando Romero finds inspiration in very different subjects such as mysticism, Buddhist mandalas and quantum physics. Very different disciplines that nevertheless have a common point: the study of what is not tangible or evident. And yet, human figure is represented in a mundane way, sometimes even provocative… the aim is the spectator not to remain indifferent.
COMMISSION ART
Portraiture is always a challenge. It is not easy to capture all the emotions expressed by a face in just one moment. In all the portraits commissioned to Fernando Romero, he always was faithful to his own style: a blurred figuration surrounded by an absent landscape which is also meaningful.
IN HIS OWN WORDS
“It is an intimate moment where a physical face is not the only element to paint; every portrait has a psychology that must be interpreted. It is fascinating how every new paint layer and every new texture provides something new to the portrait. In the end, with this combination of precise brush-strokes and hazy lines I want to catch the soul of every person who I paint.”
